THE Chief Administrative Officer of the Namibia Sport Commission yesterday confirmed that he has not yet received a letter of appeal from the United Rugby Club, which has been expelled by the Namibia Rugby Union until 2007.
Rusten Mogane told The Namibian Sport yesterday that “they were possibly in the process but our office has not yet received their appeal”. United, which turns 90 years old next year and one of the oldest clubs in Namibia, was expelled from competing in the activities of the NRU for the next two years after the club refused to release players for national duty. The club said in a letter this week that they would appeal the decision taken by the NRU executive committee last weekend.United decided not to make its players available for national selection. They claimed to have lost faith in the management of the union after the rugby bosses failed to keep numerous promises when the players were doing duty for the country.NRU Chief Executive Officer Eden Meyer said the union would wait for the appeal and act accordingly. He said he did not want to dwell on it, but instead said that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the union would take place this weekend. He said the union would elect a new vice president to replace the late Pastor Andrew Vergontine. He said a new additional member would also be elected to fill a position that had been vacant since last year.NRU president Dirk Conradie and the rest of the serving members will still pull the strings in the sport until 2007, when their term of office ends.United, which turns 90 years old next year and one of the oldest clubs in Namibia, was expelled from competing in the activities of the NRU for the next two years after the club refused to release players for national duty. The club said in a letter this week that they would appeal the decision taken by the NRU executive committee last weekend.
