Nkandhi-Shiimi is defiant

THE Medical Superintendent at the Windhoek Central Hospital, Dr Helen Nkandhi-Shiimi, says talk of her resignation is merely the work of disgruntled fellow employees.

Dr Nkandhi-Shiimi is believed to have handed in her resignation to the Health Ministry in early December – for the second time in the last year.
As in the previous case earlier last year, Nkandhi-Shiimi is again said to have withdrawn her resignation just a day after handing it in to the office of the Permanent Secretary.
This time, however, it appears the Ministry is not as keen on taking her back – with Permanent Secretary Kahijoro Kahuure apparently refusing at the end of last year to accept her withdrawal.
Attempts to verify this information with Kahuure last week proved futile, as he ctold The Namibian on Wednesday that he had no comment to give on the matter.
He is quoted in another daily newspaper as confirming Nkandhi-Shiimi’s resignation, although saying the situation was ‘a complicated one’.
Nkandhi-Shiimi herself dismissed all talk of her apparent resignation, naming a colleague within the hospital’s Human Resources department as the source of the ‘misinformation’.
‘I don’t know what you’ve been told. But I’ve spent too much effort cleaning up this hospital for people to try and fish me out. I’m going nowhere,’ she told The Namibian, adding that the hospital seems to have become another arena for political battles.
Nkandhi-Shiimi’s last working day, according to hospital sources, was supposed to be on December 15 last year, although she remains in her office to date.
