LAGOS – Nigeria’s second largest mobile phone operator Econet said it signed a five-year management deal with South Africa’s Vodacom yesterday in its latest attempt to link up with Africa’s largest mobile company.
A previous attempt by Econet to sell Vodacom a majority stake failed after former technical partner and 5 per cent equity holder Econet Wireless International went to court and stopped the deal worth US$250 million. “A five-year management agreement is being signed now by Econet and Vodacom,” an Econet spokesman said, adding that more details would be available soon.-Nampa-Reuters”A five-year management agreement is being signed now by Econet and Vodacom,” an Econet spokesman said, adding that more details would be available soon.-Nampa-Reuters
