Ngurare’s Political Opportunism

Ngurare’s Political Opportunism

ALLOW me to express myself because the right to freedom of speech and expression is a right but not a privilege.

At the same time I have to consider a responsibility that goes with that right. The phone-in programmes, ‘Open Line’ and ‘Chat Show’ of October 15 and 16 2007 were flooded with a series of questions that were posed by Elijah Ngurare of the Swapo Party.Mr Ngurare wants to know from “anybody”, among others, “why there are no shacks (Kambashus) erected in the city centre and in the luxurious suburbs in Windhoek for the low-paid employees and domestic workers to sleep in and sell their ‘vetkoek’ and Oshikundu (a non-alcoholic, home-made beverage)?” You know what? Ngurare is neither planning to live in a Kambashu nor planning to sell Oshikundu. He is just being opportunistic when he continues to ask such questions on air.By the way, being a senior member of Swapo, Secretary of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL), he knows where to get answers for his questions. He knows that the City Council of Windhoek is Swapo controlled. He knows that all Regional Councillors in Khomas Region are Swapo Councillors. He knows that he is a Special Adviser of Mr John Pandeni, Minister of Regional, Local Government and Housing. This is the line Ministry and Pandeni is also a Deputy Secretary General of Swapo. As you can see, the guy should have no problem getting his questions answered. His coming to ‘Open Line’ and ‘Chat Show’ is – yes, yes, yes – purely and simply political OPPORTUNISM! Is Ngurare implying that there is a need for the people from Katutura who are employed by Government as cleaners to be allowed to squat in their employers’ premises? This is ridiculous! This is tantamount to economic sabotage. It is equally an insult to the poor people of Katutura. It is likely that the coming Swapo Congress has made some people politically drunk. At the recent SPYL Congress that elected him as Secretary, Ngurare was understood by President Pohamba as demanding from him that, “we want toilets in rural areas now!” The Head of State felt that he was being told to go to “dig the toilet latrines”.What kind of a cultured and educated person is this one? I am therefore advising him to stop behaving like a political mercenary who is employed to serve someone’s interest. This country cannot afford to maintain those possessing a hidden agenda against the nation.Shapopi Shapopi, Via e-mailThe phone-in programmes, ‘Open Line’ and ‘Chat Show’ of October 15 and 16 2007 were flooded with a series of questions that were posed by Elijah Ngurare of the Swapo Party.Mr Ngurare wants to know from “anybody”, among others, “why there are no shacks (Kambashus) erected in the city centre and in the luxurious suburbs in Windhoek for the low-paid employees and domestic workers to sleep in and sell their ‘vetkoek’ and Oshikundu (a non-alcoholic, home-made beverage)?” You know what?
