Ngurare lays into newspaper

SWAPO Youth League Secretary Elijah Ngurare has blasted a local weekly newspaper that quoted him as calling Youth and Sport Minister Willem Konjore a womaniser.

In an article titled ‘Ngurare accuses Konjore of womanising while youth suffer’, Informanté said Ngurare accused Konjore of abusing his position to employ certain female staff members.’This article was in bad taste and incompatible with the values of ethics and morality. I spoke to both the editor of Informanté and the Minister to express dismay with the content. It is clear that I was quoted out of context,’ Ngurare said in a statement.Ngurare said he had differences with Konjore and the Ministry of Youth and Sport on issues related to the Ministry but never on personal matters.’Therefore the article was meant to focus on the generality of accountability expected from any public officer bearer. We occupy such offices as servants of the people regardless of their race, tribe or family background. That is the context of the interview,’ he said.
