NFA Cup finalists finally paid

TEAMS that contested in the finals of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup last month finally received their full payments from the football authorities yesterday.

NFA Cup winners Black Africa, Tigers and Life Fighters all received their last cheques after waiting for close to a month. Chief Santos is the only team that still needs to collect its last cheque after the other three teams did so by yesterday.Black Africa, as winners, received a total of just over N$122 000, while runners-up Life Fighters received N$61 270.Santos was to be paid N$24 508 as winners of the third and fourth place, while Tigers now have their full N$12 245.Namibia Premier League Administrator Tovey Hoebeb yesterday confirmed to The Namibian Sport that Santos was the only team that was still to pick up its cheque.Officials of the three teams also confirmed that they had received their monies yesterday, with the exception of Santos.Earlier this month, team officials complained that the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC), who are the official sponsors of the domestic leagues and the national teams in Namibia, often take too long to release funds after tournaments. The consortium defended itself by pointing to the NFA as being too bureaucratic when processing invoices in advance for them to make the payments.A contract that binds the Namibia Football Association (NFA) not to seek any sponsorships from other companies was signed between them and the NFC in 2001 and is expected to run out in August next year. The NFC consist of Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) and First National Bank Holdings (FNB).Chief Santos is the only team that still needs to collect its last cheque after the other three teams did so by yesterday.Black Africa, as winners, received a total of just over N$122 000, while runners-up Life Fighters received N$61 270.Santos was to be paid N$24 508 as winners of the third and fourth place, while Tigers now have their full N$12 245.Namibia Premier League Administrator Tovey Hoebeb yesterday confirmed to The Namibian Sport that Santos was the only team that was still to pick up its cheque.Officials of the three teams also confirmed that they had received their monies yesterday, with the exception of Santos.Earlier this month, team officials complained that the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC), who are the official sponsors of the domestic leagues and the national teams in Namibia, often take too long to release funds after tournaments. The NFC consist of Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC), Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) and First National Bank Holdings (FNB).
