NAMIBIA Football Association (NFA) president John Muinjo yesterday confirmed that a total of nine applications has been received for the position of the body’s chief executive officer, but the appointment is only due in August.
The closing date for the applications was June 14 after the position was advertised in mid May. Muinjo said interviews will only be held next month as the executive committee has not yet met to discuss the issue.”Once we meet, we will screen the applications and then the interviews will be held.We will have a panel that will carry out the interviews,” he said.He said the upcoming Cosafa Cup in Botswana on June 28 in which the Brave Warriors will clash against that country and the annual football awards, slated for July 21, has further pushed back the process of appointing the chief administrators for the football mother body.At the moment, Barry Rukoro is the acting secretary-general.Rukoro was roped in after former SG, Alpheus Gaweseb was fired diplomatically by being put on forced leave earlier in the year. When Muinjo became president, he decided to revamp the entire secretariat, starting with the appointment of a chief executive officer, who will in turn recruit a financial manager, marketing and advertising chief in line with Fifa recommendations. At this stage, it is not known who will foot the salary of the new man once appointed in August as the NFA has been struggling financially.Earlier, the NFA said Government and the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC) will be approached to pay for the salary.Muinjo said interviews will only be held next month as the executive committee has not yet met to discuss the issue.”Once we meet, we will screen the applications and then the interviews will be held.We will have a panel that will carry out the interviews,” he said.He said the upcoming Cosafa Cup in Botswana on June 28 in which the Brave Warriors will clash against that country and the annual football awards, slated for July 21, has further pushed back the process of appointing the chief administrators for the football mother body.At the moment, Barry Rukoro is the acting secretary-general.Rukoro was roped in after former SG, Alpheus Gaweseb was fired diplomatically by being put on forced leave earlier in the year. When Muinjo became president, he decided to revamp the entire secretariat, starting with the appointment of a chief executive officer, who will in turn recruit a financial manager, marketing and advertising chief in line with Fifa recommendations. At this stage, it is not known who will foot the salary of the new man once appointed in August as the NFA has been struggling financially.Earlier, the NFA said Government and the Namibia Football Consortium (NFC) will be approached to pay for the salary.
