THE Namibia Football Association (NFA) has submitted a plan to the International Federation of International Football Associations’ Goal Project to construct a training field next to the Soccer House in Katutura.
NFA spokesperson Beau Kauta said that the unused stadium opposite the Katutura Magistrate’s Court would be a training field for the various national teams. “As you know, players can be housed at the Soccer House and it will be ideal to have the training field right next to it,” said Kauta. He could not give the estimated cost of building the training field but said it would definitely amount to millions. The construction of the training field was supposed to have started a year after the completion of Soccer House in 2003, but it was delayed because of a lack of money. The budget for building Soccer House was about N$6 million, but there have been reports that the actual costs did not amount to that much.Construction experts have estimated the cost at N$3 million, but the football authorities have refused to reveal the amount. The NFA constructed the facility with funds received through Fifa’s Goal Project – the brainchild of Fifa President Joseph Sepp Blatter. The current field, which was popular for hosting political rallies during the liberation struggle, is also used for schools’ athletic meets and a training field for Premier League clubs.-Nampa”As you know, players can be housed at the Soccer House and it will be ideal to have the training field right next to it,” said Kauta. The current field, which was popular for hosting political rallies during the liberation struggle, is also used for schools’ athletic meets and a training field for Premier League clubs.-Nampa
