A VISIT to a friend’s place turned into a life-altering experience for Windhoek resident Daklan Gowases on Monday. She discovered a newborn baby girl abandoned next to a dumpster in Khomasdal.
The child, who weighed about 1,5 kg, was found shivering although warmly wrapped up, Gowases said.’I was walking along when I heard a dog barking and running around the dumpster. When I went closer I saw the child lying on the ground gurgling,’ she said. She took the baby to the Katutura State Hospital.According to the nurses, the girl appears to have been born on Monday, and is further suspected to have been born prematurely at seven months.Gowases has indicated she is prepared to adopt the child if the biological mother is not found, and pending further medical tests.’I believe this child was sent to us for a reason. If she gets to go home with me, she’ll be named ‘Ons sinne’ (Ours),’ a smiling Gowases told The Namibian.
