THE new series of banknotes, including the N$10- and N$20-notes featuring Founding President Sam Nujoma, will be issued on May 15, the Bank of Namibia (BoN) said yesterday. The characteristics of the new series was gazetted on Tuesday, the BoN said in a statement.
The new series was necessary to ensure that there will be enough currency in Namibia for the next three years. The notes have also been upgraded with eight enhanced security features. The BoN will pay N$154 million in total for the new series, but will only pay upon delivery at different times during the course of the three-year period. President Hifikepunye Pohamba launched the Nujoma notes in Mariental on Independence Day.
