NCCI to restructure northern branches

ONGWEDIVA – The Board of Directors of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) is planning to establish representative committees in the northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto.

Chief Executive Officer of the NCCI, Tarah Shaanika, revealed this during a press conference at Ongwediva on Thursday. Shaanika said the four regions have been serviced by one regional branch office based at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region.”It has been extremely difficult to provide services to all our members throughout the North and a decision has been taken by the NCCI Board to restructure this region,” Shaanika told reporters. In this respect, Shaanika said the NCCI would have new representative committee in the towns of Ondangwa, Ongwediva, Oshakati, Eenhana, Helao Nafidi, Omuthiya and Outapi to facilitate service provision to the Chamber’s members.Elections for the representative committees in the various northern towns would be held in the next two months, including the election of a new regional executive committee as the current committee’s term has expired, Shaanika said.Shaanika added that the regional executive committee, which has an office at Ongwediva, has also been operating without a chairperson since the death of Phillip Amwele last year.He stressed that the restructuring of the NCCI northern structures is aimed at improving efficiency of service delivery in the four northern regions.”We expect this restructuring process to be completed before the NCCI’s national annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for June 7 2008 in Windhoek where a new president and Board of Directors will be elected for a term of two years,” Shaanika said.NampaShaanika said the four regions have been serviced by one regional branch office based at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region.”It has been extremely difficult to provide services to all our members throughout the North and a decision has been taken by the NCCI Board to restructure this region,” Shaanika told reporters. In this respect, Shaanika said the NCCI would have new representative committee in the towns of Ondangwa, Ongwediva, Oshakati, Eenhana, Helao Nafidi, Omuthiya and Outapi to facilitate service provision to the Chamber’s members.Elections for the representative committees in the various northern towns would be held in the next two months, including the election of a new regional executive committee as the current committee’s term has expired, Shaanika said.Shaanika added that the regional executive committee, which has an office at Ongwediva, has also been operating without a chairperson since the death of Phillip Amwele last year.He stressed that the restructuring of the NCCI northern structures is aimed at improving efficiency of service delivery in the four northern regions.”We expect this restructuring process to be completed before the NCCI’s national annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for June 7 2008 in Windhoek where a new president and Board of Directors will be elected for a term of two years,” Shaanika said.Nampa
