NBC acting boss tipped for Hardap Council top job

ACTING Nambian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Director General, Yvonne Boois, is the hot favourite to fill the vacant chief regional officer (CRO) position in the Hardap Regional Council.

The Namibian has it on good authority that the Hardap Regional Council, on January 28, submitted a recommendation to that effect to the Public Service Commission.Other contenders who competed for the position were Hardap Education Director Ben Boys, former NamPost Managing Director Abraham Kukuri, head of the Namibia Development Trust Ronny Dempers and former Kunene Regional Council Deputy Director Erich Boois.A well-placed source said the Council recommended Boois, who had scored the third highest marks during an interview, on the basis of affirmative action.Boys reportedly had the best score followed by Dempers. The position became vacant when Council terminated former CRO James Sankwasa’s employment contract in November 2008. But, Sankwasa had lodged a labour case in April last year, claiming the Council had illegally ended his employment contract before its expiry date of August 11, 2009. The labour court ruled in favour of Sankwasa ordering the Council to re-instate him, but the re-instatement order was provisionally set aside after the Council had lodged an appeal. The appeal hearing was set for November 27 last year, but it could not take place because Sankwasa had apparently requested for a postponement, The Namibian understands. The Council, on advice from its lawyer Sisa Namandje, decided to fill the vacant post, a source said.According to the source, Namandje argued that Sankwasa’ re-instatement was unlikely because the expiry date of the disputed contract had lapsed.luqman@namibian.com.na
