National Assembly resumes

THE National Assembly will resume business this afternoon after a two-month recess. This session will be the second one of the new Parliament since they were sworn in in March.

The session is expected to be adjourned after today’s sitting until next week, as another induction course for Parliamentarians has been planned for the rest of this week. The induction course is expected to deal with matters related to house rules and the operation of Parliamentary committees. The Ministry of Trade and Industry is the only Government agency listed as having given notice of bills it plans to introduce to the House during this session. These include a bill on standards, which is closely linked to the Accreditation Board of Namibia Bill passed earlier this year, and another on trade metrology [accuracy of weights and measurements].When the National Assembly last sat, it was largely tied up discussing the National Budget, which was slightly delayed because of the change of Government. It also passed amendments to the Communal Land Reform and Insolvency Acts.
