THE body of John ya Otto Nankudhu was flown to the North on Tuesday for a memorial service at his traditional homestead at the Ontananga village in the Oshikoto Region.
Nankudu, who has been given hero status and will be buried at the Heroes’ Acre on Saturday, died on Tuesday, June 21.His body was flown by a military aircraft to Ondangwa, where mourners lined the streets of the town.After the coffin was put in a van, a long convoy drove down the Ondangwa main street to Ontananga village where the coffin was awaited by the widow, Jacobina Nankudhu, children, other family members and friends.Oshikoto Swapo regional coordinator Armas Amukwiyu welcomed the mourners, saying Nankudhu had sacrificed his life for the liberation struggle.Ontananga Pastor Herman Shongolo told the mourners to emulate the example set by Nankudhu.Minister of Safety and Security Mbumba Nangolo, who was also in attendance, said Nankudhu was a real Namibian hero who never wavered during the liberation struggle.Before the coffin was transported back to Windhoek on Tuesday, it was taken into the Ontananga church where a memorial service was held.
