Namoloh challenges SPYL’s Ngurare

THE table has been laid for a last attempt to oust Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) Leader, Elijah Ngurare, during the SPYL congress later this month with the nomination of Julius Namoloh to contest for the position of secretary.

This came after attempts by the anti-Ngurare group to postpone the weekend’s SPYL Central Committee meeting in Windhoek failed and they ran out of options of who should take on Ngurare.Apparently the group met shortly before the central committee meeting and wanted to ask for a postponement but some of their erstwhile supporters turned their backs on them.Heather Sibungo of Caprivi, who serves in the National Youth Council with Namoloh, will run for the position of deputy secretary against Veikko Nekundi who was nominated by the Kavango, Omusati, Caprivi, Khomas, Hardap and Erongo regions. The same regions nominated Ngurare, while Namoloh and Sibungo were nominated by the Oshikoto and Ohangwena regions at the central committee meeting.Ngurare, in his opening remarks on Saturday, warned the youth not to waste time on non-issues, but rather to direct their energy at real issues to collectively promote social, political and economic development.“Individually we are members but collectively we are leaders. In a platform of individuals differences of opinion are not uncommon but such differences must be on issues and not personalities.”He added that in the recent years, some in the SPYL had become “creative factories of lies and propaganda” all of which are in contravention of the ideals espoused in the constitution of SPYL.“Once again, we are not a club of messenger boys or girls of anybody outside the SPYL. Our generational agenda is not to become sweet bubblegums that would be spat out once the sweetness is over. We are not that cheap and must never be. We joined the Swapo Party Youth League and we never joined individuals. Therefore for those trying to control SPYL from the outside, our advice is: hands off SPYL and leave us to follow our constitution because we know how,” Ngurare said.He said the SPYL must provide leadership and must guide the youth with the principles of unity and absolute honesty. The SPYL will also table its proposed policy papers on economy, education, technology, foreign affairs and health at the upcoming congress as well as the general report of the central committee on the past five years’ activities. The last item would be the election of the secretary and his deputy, and the election of central committee members.
