Namibia’s copper, uranium lure Indian mining giant

INDIA’S National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has its eye on Namibia’s copper and uranium, the Hindu Business Line has reported.

According to the paper, Nalco is keen to have Hindustan Copper as its partner in the project. The public sector aluminium giant has also begun preliminary discussions with Uranium Corporation of India to scout for opportunities in the uranium industry in Namibia too, the Hindu Business Line said.’On a recent visit to the African country, we gathered primary geological data and interacted with the Namibian Government officials,’ the paper quoted Nalco Finance Director B.L. Bagra. ‘We are likely to explore possibilities there in some minerals,’ he told the Hindu Business Line.Nalco has also proposed a joint venture with Hindustan Copper for copper mining. It signed an MoU with Hindustan Copper last year for joint prospecting, exploration and mining of copper within the country and abroad. – Hindu Business Line
