Namibians perform at squash festival

FOR the fourth year running, Namibia entered the South African Country Schools Squash Festival in Bloemfontein, with a record six teams competing this year.

The Namibian under-14 girls’ team, consisting of Zaan de Witt, Carmen Zwart, Ndapewa Kandombo and Demi Mouton, won all their games with maximum points, again proving that the standard of Namibian junior squash is improving rapidly. The Namibians’ victory allowed them to depart from Bloemfontein in high spirits. Not even an incident when their bus ran out of fuel close to Mariental could dampen the spirits of the victorious Namibian teams.Under the management of Jenny Lombard, P.Fisher, H.Zwart, N.Depene, J.Malherbe and H.Doergeloh, 24 members of the Namibian invitation teams left from Walvis Bay by bus at 03h30 on Thursday, April 28.Apart from departing without Trevor Grane, who later joined the party as he was inadvertently left behind, the long journey was uneventful with an overnight stop in Upington. At the venue in Bloemfontein, the Namibians players encountered fierce competition with 51 teams competing from nine of South Africa’s provinces. The results for all the teams are: Girls 0/19 A Section 4th out of 7 teams Girls 0/14 Section 1st out of 5 teams Boys 0/19 A Section 5th out of 7 teams Boys 0/19 B Section 4th out of 5 teams Boys 0/16 A Section 2nd out of 8 teams Boys 0/14 Section 4th out of 8 teamsThe Namibians’ victory allowed them to depart from Bloemfontein in high spirits. The results for all the teams are: Girls 0/19 A Section 4th out of 7 teams Girls 0/14 Section 1st out of 5 teams Boys 0/19 A Section 5th out of 7 teams Boys 0/19 B Section 4th out of 5 teams Boys 0/16 A Section 2nd out of 8 teams Boys 0/14 Section 4th out of 8 teams
