CHAIRMAN of the Brave Warriors Supporters Club (BWSC) Kayele Kambombo and two club members, ABC Cooper and Carlos Kambaekua, will attend the inauguration of Cosua in Johannesburg, South Africa from Monday.
The inauguration, which will also have an Indaba on its activities, ends on July 16. A media release by the BWSC states that Advocate Sarfo Abebrese, is the pioneer of the Coalition of Supporters Union of Africa (Cosua) that was launched in Ghana in 2006.Abebrese is said to have excelled on the job and travelled to all parts of the world to make sure Cosua has all the support it deserves to make the African initiative a great success.”If South Africa fails the world by not bringing together thousands of fans in the stadia to support the six African competing teams at the 2010 World Cup, Africa will fail to host another World Cup in our lifetime,š said the statement, issued by Kambombo yesterday. The objective is to mobilise all Africans across the continent and in the Diaspora to provide unified support for the six African nations who will represent the continent at the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa. It will primarily serve as an African unity project through sports. The Cosua delegation under the able leadership of Abebrese embarked on the arduous task of touring all 53 African countries, including the Diaspora, with the message of hope and unity for the continent.Strategically, Cosua started with southern Africa and has already visited Zambia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.Ababrese said the sponsors of the world football event would prefer tens of thousands of fans to watch the semi-final clashes rather than having just a few hundreds or thousands.Africa and its people have learnt a good lesson from the past experience in all previous tournaments of great magnitude. Now is the time for Africa and its citizens to put their experiences and knowledge gained through those processes.People wishing to be members of Cosua can only join through the BWSC.Membership of the BWSC costs N$150 per person while Cosua membership is U$20, (about N$150), said the statement.Cosua linked up with the various football associations, local supporters unions and the mass media.Press conferences were held in every country, with extensive coverage on national television stations, newspapers, radios and online media. The current membership is about 100 000.With more countries to be covered, a target of at least two million organised African supporters roaring Africa on to victory at the 2010 World Cup, is envisaged. The body plans to get at least 40 000 African supporters into the stadium when African teams are playing in designated Cosua T-shirts and memorabilia Cosua also had meetings with the African Union Commissioner for Sports and Social Affairs, Bience Gawanas, who was highly enthusiastic about the idea.MTC Namibia Premier League Saturday, June 5 Keetmanshoop – St.Josephs Std.19h00: Fedics Utd v African Stars Oshakati – Independence Std.15h00: Oshakati City v Ramblers Otjiwarongo – Mokati
