NAMIBIAN junior squash players are set for competition at two prestigious international tournaments in April.
The national under-19 team will take on the top junior squash players from across the continent during the All Africa U/19 Squash Championships. The championships will be held in Harare, Zimbabwe, between April 5 and 10 at St John’s College. A total of 12 countries have been entered for the competition and all will be seeking to dethrone Egypt, who are the reigning African and World junior champions.Namibia will be represented by Julika Pahl; Alyssa Cummings; Danie Greeff; Michael van Lingen and Le-Hugo van Rooyen at the All Africa U/19 Squash Championships:The second, and much larger touring side, will participate at the South African Schools’ Squash Festival – an annual event which the Namibian Squash Association (NSA) has been a handing since 2000. The festival takes place in Bloemfontein and it regularly attracts over 300 junior squash players from all over South Africa as well as Zimbabwe.Namibia’s presence at both tournaments is to allow its youngsters the chance to experience international competition. In the Bloemfontein Festival contingent are: U/13 Girls – Lida-Marie Calitz, Marcha-Lee Breytenbach, Kayla Elago, Tuwilika Endjambi; U/13 Boys – Gerhard Lottering, Wynand Breytenbach, Kyle Kriel, Brandon Grane; U/14 Boys – Cabous Olivier, Hein Bam, MC Engelbrecht, Luke Brinkmann; U/16 Girls- Alyssa Cummings, Elsje van der Merwe, Sansune Olivier, Nhadia Gustavo; U/16 Boys (A) – Daniel Jansen, Ruan Olivier, Armand Jordaan, Dylan Spencer; U/16 Boys (B) – George de Haas, Nikolai Hof, Marco Herunga, Guido Novack; U/19 Girls- Sandra Riobo, Tari avn der Merwe, Vulika Endjambi; U/19 Boys (A) – Philip de Villiers, Truman Fisher, JD Swart, Stefan van Tonder; U/19 Boys (B) – Christo van Wyk, Heinza Pfeiffer, Dewald van Wyk, and Rigo Gossouw.
