AN impressive standard of badminton was played at the annual Namibian Closed Badminton Championships that took place on Saturday at the SKW hall in Windhoek.
The championships gave a clear indication that players have worked hard on their game in recent times, which makes it that much harder on the national selectors to choose the country’s representatives for the upcoming Botswana international to be held in September in Windhoek. The selectors will announce the teams within the next two weeks.
The Badminton Federation of Namibia will focus the next three months on the national training for the teams to be selected for the Botswana international.
National coach Leon Koch, who is also the convener of the selection committee, is ready to implement a heavy training programme for those members that will make the teams. Valuable ranking points were collected by all participants of this prestigious tournament on the Badminton year calendar.
The ranking system gives the national selectors a very good indication of which players to invite to the annual trials.
The federation’s president, Jürgen Leicher, expressed his satisfaction saying that he ‘thanks to all players that travelled from as far as Tsumeb, Swakopmund, Omaruru etc. for their effort in making Badminton a competitive sport throughout Namibia.’
