Namibia primed for puppets: CC

Namibia primed for puppets: CC

A RECENT expose published by human rights activist Phil ya Nangoloh on Swapo President Sam Nujoma’s links to colonisers are part of a massive and fraudulent campaign to unseat the ruling party and install a puppet regime in Namibia, a statement issued after this weekend’s Central Committee meeting said.

In a 10-page statement to defend Nujoma, the party’s Central Committee (CC) said reactionaries under the leadership of ya Nangoloh made feeble attempts to rewrite and tarnish the party’s name and proud history based on the “memoirs of a war criminal, Magnus Malan”. “Motivated by hidden agenda, there are institutions and reactionary individuals who are bent on belittling and denigrating our efforts (by engaging) in fictitious and fruitless rewriting of our history,” the statement said.Sources who attended the CC meeting said the statement was basically Nujoma’s statement to the CC, which was adopted as a stance from the meeting after a few discussions.”It actually came as a surprise to us.No one expected the CC meeting to take that direction. We were hoping to discuss issues related to the upcoming congress but there was hardly anything about it apart from adopting the Politburo recommendations. At the end it was all about unity in the party,” said one source. The CC statement said Swapo has always embraced collective leadership and decision-making at all levels.”To say that comrade Nujoma returned to Namibia to collaborate with the enemy and betrayed the national liberation struggle is an insult, not only to him, but the entire Swapo party leadership and the gallant sons and daughters of Namibia who paid the ultimate price for our freedom,” the CC statement said.In his exposé, ya Nangoloh claimed that Nujoma had Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) connections and based his statements primarily on the Swapo leader’s own “propagandistic autobiography wrongly titled ‘Where Others Wavered’”.”Hence, this pro-Nujoma statement is nothing more than a selective rehearsal of the same fallacious, self-styled and self-serving claims and misinformation as contained in the said autobiography.’You can only fool some of the people some time, but you cannot fool all the people always’,” ya Nangoloh responded in a statement yesterday. He claimed that Nujoma chose to hide behind the CC and other Namibians with whom ya Nangoloh had no qualm.”As I have stated time and again, my exposé is aimed at Nujoma and Nujoma only in both his private and public capacity, and not at the Swapo Party, its other leaders and members and or supporters”.He termed the statement as “a blanket proclamation”, which did not in any material way, respond to the specific issues and questions raised in his exposé about Nujoma’s CIA connections. He said the Swapo CC statement was a shameful and counter-productive attempt to cover up the traitorous activities by Nujoma during the liberation struggle.”This state of affairs is surely destined to fail and dismally back fire as the Namibian people are no longer willing or available to be fooled and fed by Nujoma and his puppeteers with crude propaganda and a pack of lies.”Swapo said ya Nangoloh’s writings were typical of the anti-revolutionary propaganda used by the South African military intelligence to brainwash Namibians prior to Independence. The Swapo CC cautioned the rank and file of the party not to allow anyone to tarnish the reputation of the leadership.”Motivated by hidden agenda, there are institutions and reactionary
