Namibia defeat Oman by 36 runs

NAMIBIA maintained their 100 per cent record at thae T20 World Cup qualifiers with a 38-run victory against Oman yesterday.

Namibia got off to their worst start of the tournament as they slumped to 48/5 but a fine all-round performance by captain Sarel Burger eventually saw them winning the match.Namibia won the toss and elected to bat but were immediately in trouble, losing the wickets of Raymond van Schoor (1) and LP van der Westhuizen (1) with only 3 runs on the board.Craig Williams followed soon after for 7 and when Gerrie Snyman (22) and Nicolaas Scholtz (0) were out in the same over, Namibia were in trouble at 48/5. Burger however kept the run rate going and received good support from Ian Opperman (14) and Christi Viljoen (13 not out) as Namibia reached 120/7 off their 20 overs.Burger was not out on 53 off 44 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. Oman was eventually all out for 84 off 18,4 overs to give Namibia a comfortable 36-run victory.Christi Viljoen shone with the ball, taking 4/8 off 3,4 overs, while Sarel Burger took 3/14 to win the Man of the Match award.
