Namibia was named runner-up in this year’s World Trade Promotion Organisation Awards.
According to a statement by Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) spokesperson Catherine Shipushu, the International Trade Centre announced on Tuesday that Namibia came second under the category ‘Best Initiative to Ensure that Trade is Inclusive and Sustainable’.
The awards, which celebrate innovation and leadership in trade promotion, recognise trade promotion organisations that support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to compete in international markets.
Namibia was shortlisted alongside ApexBrazil, who were the category winners.
“Trade and investment promotion organisations are key to growing economies in a sustainable way – including supporting small businesses to export – and today we’re recognising the best among them, worldwide,” said International Trade Centre executive director Pamela Coke-Hamilton.
“We pledge to continue working with MSMEs in Namibia to ensure trade is inclusive, sustainable and that we will grow in accessing global markets,” said Julia Muetudhana, the NIPDB’s acting executive director of MSME development, innovation and acceleration.
The executive director of the Dynamic Informal Traders Association, Tangeni Shindondola, welcomed Namibia’s second spot as a positive development in the small businesses sector. – email: matthew@namibian.com.na_
