Namdock quarantines employees

THE Namibian company that provides marine engineering services as well as ship repairs to the local and international liners, Namdock has obtained permission to quarantine its employees who are suspected to have been exposed to Covid-19.

The company’s acting chief executive officer, Heritha Muyoba, informed The Namibian that Namdock has constructed and funded an 18 bed private quarantine facility for its employees.

About five employees of the company are at the facility as they are suspected to have been in contact with a colleague who tested positive to Covid-19 recently.

“We saw this thing coming and employees who are yet to be tested are at our quarantine facility and we have obtained approval from the ministry to host them. We have a nurse and security officer on site. All quarantined employees will be monitored and periodically re-tested, until they are cleared to go home,” said Muyoba.

After receiving confirmation that one of its employees tested positive for Covid-19, the company closed all its workshops and facilities, as well as administration offices for today (29 June) and tomorrow (30 June), to allow for disinfection.

The employee who tested positive for Covid-19 has been taken to a state isolation facility.

“We also wish to reassure the community as a whole that we are doing everything in our power to mitigate any further risk to our employees, suppliers, clients and the greater Walvis Bay community as a whole,” said Muyoba.

Namdock has been at the forefront of supporting the government in response and mobilising resources to prepare the state medical facilities in the Erongo region for the pandemic.

During the first lockdown period, the company’s employees refurbished beds, lockers on trolleys for the Walvis Bay district hospital. They also played a major role in refurbishing the old TB ward and garages which are currently serving as one of the Covid-19 isolation facilities at the town.
