NAMDEB last week signed a memorandum of understanding with EVI Mining Company, a black economic empowerment company operating in the local mining sector.
The MoU is in line with the company’s commitment to economic upliftment of previously disadvantaged Namibians. The agreement was signed in Windhoek by Namdeb’s Managing Director, Inge Zaamwani, and EVI’s Managing Director, Issy Namaseb, after discussions held between the companies to empower and involve smaller mining companies in the diamond industry. The companies identified short and medium term projects and opportunities for the mining and treatment of Namdeb’s onshore and inshore diamond resources in Namdeb’s prospecting and mining licence areas. One short term project will see EVI be involved with is the in-field screening treatment work in the Orange River mining area, while another one pertains to the re-treatment of the mine dump situated at the Affenrueken mining area.EVI will provide Namdeb with technical, financial and contractual proposals in relation to these two.Further research and development is required to identify medium term projects that EVI may be involved with, said Namdeb.
