WALVIS BAY – The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) introduced its line of branded lubricants at a gala dinner in partnership with South African petrochemicals giant, Sasol Oil to businesses in the Erongo region on Wednesday.
The lubricants are being introduced to complement the fuels’ business, which forms an integral part of the overall downstream strategy to steer the company into the right direction of realising the ultimate aim of building an integrated oil business that can compete on equal footing with other industry players. The introduction is also aimed at providing customers with a total product offer of fuels and lubricants, which will contribute towards increasing the company’s revenue base and satisfy its customer needs, which is the provision of quality lubricants and greases.Addressing businesses at the Protea Pelican Bay Hotel at Walvis Bay, Namcor’s Manager: Downstream, Patty Olivier said the Namibian lubricants’ market stands at a total consumption of 11 million litres per annum, with an expected growth of approximately four per cent.’The bulk of usage is particularly attributed to the mining, marine and fishing sectors for their heavy equipment. Thus, Namcor targets this sector aggressively, but would also incorporate the construction, agriculture, commercial road transport, manufacturing, resellers and the retail markets, respectively,’ she explained.Olivier said to date, the company has sold over 45 000 litres of various lubricants to various market sectors since the brand was officially launched on June 4 this year in Windhoek. For the automotive industry, Namcor has an exhaustive offering covering engine oils, gear oils, transmission oils, coolants, brake fluids and greases.’Namcor also enjoys a strong presence in the industrial segment, with several offerings such as cutting oils, heat transfer fluids, quenching oils, rust preventatives, agricultural oils, textile oils and marine lubricants, amongst others,’ she boasted.Meanwhile, Olivier explained why Sasol was selected to partner with Namcor. This was based on the petrochemical giant’s strengths in supplying high-quality products, its guarantee on the performance of its products’ range, and its current footprint in the mining sector in neighbouring South Africa.Sasol Oil is also the only oil company in the southern hemisphere that has two inland refineries in South Africa, and Namibia can thus be assured that there will always be a reliable source of supply for the lubricants. The Namcor-branded lubricants will be available at the company’s depots in Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Keetmanshoop and Mariental. The company is also in the process of appointing agents in Ondangwa, Katima Mulilo and Luderitz. – Nampa
