Nambinga joins RDP

FORMER Swapo Parliamentarian Jeremiah Nambinga was formally welcomed into the fold of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) on Tuesday and will take up the position of acting Secretary for the Khomas Region.

Nambinga, who was a Swapo Central Committee member for many years and held the posts of Deputy Minister for Home Affairs and also Deputy Minister of former Prisons and Correctional Services, told reporters at the RDP party headquarters in Windhoek that his resignation from Swapo a month ago was triggered in 2004. “A list of 35 names was circulated at the Swapo electoral college in October 2004 of people allegedly ‘agents of imperialism’ as then Swapo President and Head of State Sam Nujoma told delegates at the same time that the enemies of state were allegedly working hard in Namibia,” Nambinga said.”I saw my name on that list and I thought I was dreaming. My contributions to the liberation struggle and for Swapo over many years are well known, so how I could suddenly be an agent of imperialism? It was a great shock.”Nambinga added that since then he had felt excluded from his political home, Swapo.Swapo had changed from a democratic party to an autocratic one where decisions were manipulated and “things happened behind closed doors”, Nambinga commented with a hint of sadness.”A list of 35 names was circulated at the Swapo electoral college in October 2004 of people allegedly ‘agents of imperialism’ as then Swapo President and Head of State Sam Nujoma told delegates at the same time that the enemies of state were allegedly working hard in Namibia,” Nambinga said.”I saw my name on that list and I thought I was dreaming. My contributions to the liberation struggle and for Swapo over many years are well known, so how I could suddenly be an agent of imperialism?
