THE attendance of Cabinet Ministers and backbenchers at the opening of an international HIV-AIDS conference yesterday afternoon was regarded more important than a regular session of Parliament, which was adjourned after five minutes.
The reason given was that Ministers had to be present at the opening of the conference, which started at 16h00.Parliament usually starts at 15h30 and the tea break is at 15h40.The date and opening session of the conference was known well in advance. The Namibian was unable to establish the cost of fuel to drive Cabinet Ministers from their offices to Parliament for five minutes of attendance and then to the conference venue at a local hotel. The loss of working time could also not be established.
