THE United States Agency for International Development (USAID) last week gave Namibia’s Church Alliance for Orphans (CAFO) a huge budgetary boost with a N$9,1 million donation.
Handing over the cheque on Thursday, Gregory Gottlieb, the Mission Director for USAID, said the donation ‘does not just symbolise a dollar amount. It symbolises our commitment to improving the lives of orphans and vulnerable children.’Gottlieb said USAID was particularly impressed by CAFO’s small grants programmes, which actively link needy children to the necessary resources.Founded in 2002, CAFO is ‘Namibia’s first interfaith networking organisation that is dedicated to the development and sustainability of support programmes for orphans and vulnerable children in their respective communities’.The CAFO Chairman, Reverend Wilfred Diergaardt, said the donation would go a long way in enabling the churches, faith-based organisations, civil society organisations and others to effectively continue in their work on the ground, supporting orphans and vulnerable children.nangula@namibian.com.na
