THE Police have launched a theft investigation after cash worth more than N$3 million disappeared from the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura.
Windhoek Chief Magistrate Rina Horn confirmed the discovery of the disappearance of the money, which she said would have been used as an exhibit in a Regional Court case, to The Namibian yesterday.With the investigation still in an early stage, she was not in a position to say more on the matter, Horn indicated.According to Warrant Officer Stephan Nuuyi of the Police’s Public Relations and Liaison Division, the missing would-be exhibit consists of various currencies that are worth around N$3 million.Nuuyi said the money, consisting of Namibia dollars, US dollars, South African rand and Botswana pula, was taken to the court during February. On Friday last week, it was discovered that a bag in which the money was kept had gone missing, he said.The money was supposed to be kept in a safe at the court.No arrests had been made by yesterday.
