N$1,5 million allegedly stolen at Keetmans council

THREE Keetmanshoop Town Council employees and two civilians have been charged with the alleged theft of almost N$1,5 million from the local authority, it emerged at Tuesday’s Town Council meeting.

Tommy Coleman, a former employee in the Council’s finance department and son of Town Councillor Johannes Coleman, was found guilty of theft at a disciplinary hearing in March. However, Coleman had resigned two weeks before he was served with a letter of dismissal over the alleged theft. Coleman, along with two other Council employees, Ingrid Coleman and Rosaline Keramin, and two Keetmanshoop residents, Hendrik Veldskoen and Reanette April, stand accused of having stolen close to N$1,5 million from the Council over a seven-month period in 2007. It is alleged that the stolen money was deposited in the bank accounts of Veldskoen and April. A criminal case has been opened in connection with the theft.
