MVA, Ongwediva Medipark shake on accident agreement

THE Motor Vehicle Accident Fund has signed a memorandum of agreement with Ongwediva Medipark Hospital, which will allow car accident victims to receive medical treatment at the private health institution.

MVA Chief Executive Officer Jerry Mwadinohamba and the Managing Director of Ongwediva Medipark Hospital, Tshali Iithete, signed the agreement last Friday. MVA Chief Corporate Affairs, Rosalia Martins-Haufiku said the MVA would bear all the costs for medical assistance rendered to accident victims where the fund is liable. For its part, Ongwediva MediPark will be responsible for receiving, admitting and stabilising patients.”The duration of this agreement shall be for an initial period of 12 months after which the agreement will automatically be renewed for a further period of one year,” Martins-Haufiku said.Mwadinohamba said the MVA Fund operated on a fault-based system whereby negligence on the part of the driver or owner of a motor vehicle had to be proved before the fund could be held liable. He said the fund was supposed to render assistance to every motor vehicle accident victim, but as part of its transformation strategy, it had embarked on legislative reform that would transform the current system into a no-fault compensatory system.Dr Iithete commended the MVA for its successful Xupifa Eemwenyo road safety campaign. He assured the MVA that his team was ready for emergencies.MVA Chief Corporate Affairs, Rosalia Martins-Haufiku said the MVA would bear all the costs for medical assistance rendered to accident victims where the fund is liable. He assured the MVA that his team was ready for emergencies.
