POLICE investigations into the theft charge laid against suspended NBC boss Gerry Munyama are expected to be concluded before the end of the week.
Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Hieronymus Goraseb told The Namibian yesterday that the probe into Munyama’s alleged theft of N$345 995.88 from the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation could be done by Friday. “We’re trying to push all these high profile cases to the front because of the high public interest,” Goraseb said.NBC Board Chairman and Acting Director General Ponhele Ya France also said that he believed the Police would be closing their investigation within this week.Ya France would not confirm reports that President Hifikepunye Pohamba had ordered that Munyama be removed from the NBC’s payroll while on suspension. He said “there has been no other development besides that the Police investigation is almost closing [its case]”.Munyama yesterday declined to comment on the matter when approached by The Namibian.”I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I wouldn’t want to make any further statements,” he said before hanging up the phone.Last Tuesday, the board of the NBC decided to suspend Munyama after a meeting held earlier in the morning. The board said it had uncovered “serious misconduct” on the part of Munyama as Director General.”We’re trying to push all these high profile cases to the front because of the high public interest,” Goraseb said.NBC Board Chairman and Acting Director General Ponhele Ya France also said that he believed the Police would be closing their investigation within this week.Ya France would not confirm reports that President Hifikepunye Pohamba had ordered that Munyama be removed from the NBC’s payroll while on suspension. The board said it had uncovered “serious misconduct” on the part of Munyama as Director General.
