Mum arrested after baby dies in well

A YOUNG woman has been arrested on a charge of murder after she allegedly killed her baby last week by throwing him into a well in northern Namibia.

The woman (22) was arrested after she allegedly threw her four-month-old baby boy, Vilho Ndemupandula Helao, into a well at Onambiya, a village in the Onayena area east of Ondangwa, a Police spokesperson, Sergeant Jacob Gariseb, announced yesterday.The incident took place at about 22h00 on Wednesday.Gariseb also announced that a housebreaking and theft suspect, Cleophas Defender Nowaseb (41), died at Khorixas in the early morning hours of Friday after he was shot in the abdomen by the Police.It is alleged that Nowaseb and another suspect broke into Go West Butchery at Khorixas at about 03h10 on Friday, Gariseb said.Nowaseb was trying to run away from the scene when the Police fired a shot that struck him, according to Gariseb.The other suspect was arrested inside the butchery.An amount of N$81,20 and four ‘jagwors’ were found in Nowaseb’s possession, while N$125,15 was found in the other suspect’s possession, Gariseb stated.The Police are investigating a case of murder and housebreaking and theft in connection with the incident.
