Mulongeni chairman of New Era newspaper

CABINET has approved the appointment of Dr Ben Mulongeni as a board member and chairperson of the New Era board of directors.

The decision was taken last month by the former Cabinet. Mulongeni, a former Director General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), was also appointed chairperson of the NamZim Newspapers Board.NamZim Newspapers Ltd is a joint venture between the governments of Namibia and Zimbabwe. The board members are appointed on a 50:50 ratio between the two governments. Former acting DG of the NBC Matthew Gowaseb resigned as chairperson of both New Era and NamZim Newspapers with immediate effect on January 27 2010. He also resigned as acting DG of the NBC and returned to State House as director for knowledge management. Mulongeni was already serving as a board member of NamZim Newspapers and was ‘found to be suitable for appointment as chairperson of NamZim Newspapers and of New Era,’ a Cabinet statement said.Cabinet also appointed Dina Gawases, the sub-editor of the Government magazine Namibia Review, as a board member of NamZim Newspapers.
