Muinjo thrilled by Angola’s hosting of 2010 Nations Cup

WINDHOEK – The Namibia Football Association (NFA) acting president John Muinjo gave Angola thumbs up for having been chosen to host the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2010.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced Angola the winner ahead of other bidding countries, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea (joint bid), Libya, and Nigeria in Cairo, Egypt on Monday. Muinjo told Nampa that he was thrilled, saying the victory was surely a double for the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and Confederation of Southern Africa Football Association (Cosafa).Muinjo said that Angola should be supported at all cost because they emerged from a long war, adding that football would help the infrastructure reconstruction process.”The event will help unite the people as a matter of fact.If we work hard economically we will benefit greatly from the two big events that are to take place during 2010,” he said. The other big event to take place in 2010 for the first time on African soil is the Fifa World Cup in South Africa.Muinjo said the region must celebrate the fact that the Confederation of Football Association (CAF) agenda was not carried through when CAF had to bow to pressure from three countries (Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe) for fair regional distribution of the continental showpiece. The three southern African countries appealed immediately after having been eliminated from the race in May, calling on CAF for fair distribution. The language factor, participation in the World Cup 2006, and the war legacy also played a significant role in Angola having been granted the rights to host the event, said Muinjo.NampaMuinjo told Nampa that he was thrilled, saying the victory was surely a double for the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and Confederation of Southern Africa Football Association (Cosafa).Muinjo said that Angola should be supported at all cost because they emerged from a long war, adding that football would help the infrastructure reconstruction process.”The event will help unite the people as a matter of fact.If we work hard economically we will benefit greatly from the two big events that are to take place during 2010,” he said. The language factor, participation in the World Cup 2006, and the war legacy also played a significant role in Angola having been granted the rights to host the event, said Muinjo.Nampa
