NAMIBIA Football Association (NFA) president John Muinjo is the new head of the Referees Commission for the southern Africa zone.

Muinjo was appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee on February 8 in Cairo, Egypt. Muinjo said his appointment means a lot to Namibia as the country is gaining recognition and credibility for her role in promoting football on the continent. He described his new role as a challenge but was quick to note that that any challenge needs to be overcome. His role, among others, involves the development and promotion of quality referees who will be assigned to officiate at top notch games.Muinjo said his aim is to have world class referees in the southern region. He replaced Malawian-born, Bester Kalombo, who is now based at CAF’s head office.Born in 1964, Muinjo officiated at a number of important cup finals, mostly as a match commissioner. He also serves as the referee inspector of the International Federation of Football Associations (Fifa) and is also an accredited Fifa referees instructor. He is currently also the chairman of the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (Cosafa) referees committee.Muinjo also represents Namibia at the CAF committee for Five-a-Side football. In 2006, another Namibian football personality, Boy Boy Ndjadila, who is the Namibia National Referees instructor, was appointed CAF education officer.Muinjo said his appointment means a lot to Namibia as the country is gaining recognition and credibility for her role in promoting football on the continent. In 2006, another Namibian football personality, Boy Boy Ndjadila, who is the Namibia National Referees instructor, was appointed CAF education officer.
