MTC ‘Aweh’ after all

MTC ‘Aweh’ after all

MOBILE network provider MTC has recently been in the spotlight regarding its failure to notify subscribers of changes to its popular Aweh prepaid package.

Until October 18 last year Aweh subscribers were entitled to 100 free minutes, but on that date the amount was halved. Although MTC claims to have informed all customers of the reduction via SMS, they neglected to adjust the information regarding the package on their website. This prompted a ruling by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) that a public apology was necessary and that MTC had to reimburse those customers who suffered losses due to the oversight, as was reported by The Namibian on Friday. However, prior to the CRAN ruling, MTC had already taken it upon itself to reimburse the affected customers in full. ‘MTC apologises for not updating the website on time and accepts responsibility for the discomfort that customers may have experienced, especially as it was during the time that MTC was migrating to a new website,’ said company spokesman Tim Ekandjo.MTC insists that it had complied with the CRAN ruling before it was necessary to do so and in fact before it was issued.
