LIVERPOOL – Everton manager David Moyes believes England teenage star Wayne Rooney will start the new Premiership season at Goodison Park despite the financial crisis which has engulfed the Merseysiders.
Rooney has been linked with a series of big-money moves since his sensational performances at Euro 2004 as the troubled club try desperately to fund new signings for the new campaign. But Moyes has found his movements in the transfer market restricted after a series of bust-ups in the boardroom.”This is too big football club for it to be handled in the way it has been.We have to pull together as a club,” said Moyes.”I will make sure I do my side with the players.I just hope that everybody else at the club can do the same.”Moyes is aware that with every passing day, the chances of Rooney leaving this summer are decreasing, while his advisors are still in “meaningful” discussions over his long-term future. The 18-year-old is still sidelined with a foot injury picked up at Euro 2004 and with the transfer deadline less than a month away, there is virtually no chance of the England youngster being fit enough to complete a medical successfully anyway by then. The striker is still fighting for fitness after a broken bone in his foot ended his Euro 2004 participation, and is only doing light training. If Everton decide to sell or Rooney wants to leave, time has virtually run out on such a scenario until next year.- Nampa-AFPBut Moyes has found his movements in the transfer market restricted after a series of bust-ups in the boardroom.”This is too big football club for it to be handled in the way it has been.We have to pull together as a club,” said Moyes.”I will make sure I do my side with the players.I just hope that everybody else at the club can do the same.”Moyes is aware that with every passing day, the chances of Rooney leaving this summer are decreasing, while his advisors are still in “meaningful” discussions over his long-term future. If Everton decide to sell or Rooney wants to leave, time has virtually run out on such a scenario until next year.- Nampa-AFP
