Mortuary falls quiet

RUNDU – A refrigeration problem at the Rundu State Hospital mortuary has forced many people to transport the bodies of their loved ones to other mortuaries in the region, or bury them immediately.

Nampa has established that the breakdown occurred almost two weeks ago and the situation at the mortuary has become so bad that people cannot enter the building because of the smell. Community members have complained about the cost of transporting bodies to other towns and then back to Rundu for burial. At the moment bodies are taken either to Nankudu State Hospital, about 120 kilometres west of Rundu, Bunya (50 km away), or the Nyangana Roman Catholic Hospital, some 100 km east of Rundu. The Chief Clerk at the Rundu hospital, Jona Kangumbe, said parts for the refrigeration unit had been ordered from South Africa and should arrive soon.- NampaCommunity members have complained about the cost of transporting bodies to other towns and then back to Rundu for burial. At the moment bodies are taken either to Nankudu State Hospital, about 120 kilometres west of Rundu, Bunya (50 km away), or the Nyangana Roman Catholic Hospital, some 100 km east of Rundu. The Chief Clerk at the Rundu hospital, Jona Kangumbe, said parts for the refrigeration unit had been ordered from South Africa and should arrive soon.- Nampa
