I WANT to mention two concerns to Bank Windhoek (Main Branch).I appeal to the bank management: firstly, to improve their system on the issuing of ATM cards.

My card expired end of August 2005 and I alerted the inquiry section staff personally on four occasions during July and August 2005. On both contacts I was told that the system was aware and would automatically print the new card which will then be posted to my personal post box and that I do not have to enquire about it.To my dismay, at the end of August I was unable to use my expired card and no new card had been received.I phoned and I was told that I have to come in person and order a new card.I feel I deserved to be told of the procedure before so that I could have arranged in advance.Secondly, the bank’s service charges as well as the ATM withdrawal fees are high and inconsistent.I enquired personally on this matter again and I was told that withdrawal fees vary according to the amount withdrawn and that the service charges also vary, e.g.the higher the amount/service, the higher the fee. With doubt in my mind, I nevertheless accepted the explanation.I always carefully examine my monthly account statement and detected some inconsistencies, e.g.the withdrawal of N$1 000 will cost me N$2.30 while the withdrawal of N$500 will cost me N$10.01.My debit orders remain the same every month but service fees vary from the lowest N$66.41 skyrocketing sometimes to N$90.00.As much as I acknowledge that bank institutions must charge for their services and I appreciate their efficiency in handling customers, let these be coupled with a high degree of consistency, lenience, consideration and openness to the society.I suppose I am not the only one concerned or maybe misunderstand the above issues, and if so, please clarify and improvement will be highly appreciated.Kimbie-Lulu M KhomasdalOn both contacts I was told that the system was aware and would automatically print the new card which will then be posted to my personal post box and that I do not have to enquire about it.To my dismay, at the end of August I was unable to use my expired card and no new card had been received.I phoned and I was told that I have to come in person and order a new card.I feel I deserved to be told of the procedure before so that I could have arranged in advance.Secondly, the bank’s service charges as well as the ATM withdrawal fees are high and inconsistent.I enquired personally on this matter again and I was told that withdrawal fees vary according to the amount withdrawn and that the service charges also vary, e.g.the higher the amount/service, the higher the fee. With doubt in my mind, I nevertheless accepted the explanation.I always carefully examine my monthly account statement and detected some inconsistencies, e.g.the withdrawal of N$1 000 will cost me N$2.30 while the withdrawal of N$500 will cost me N$10.01.My debit orders remain the same every month but service fees vary from the lowest N$66.41 skyrocketing sometimes to N$90.00.As much as I acknowledge that bank institutions must charge for their services and I appreciate their efficiency in handling customers, let these be coupled with a high degree of consistency, lenience, consideration and openness to the society.I suppose I am not the only one concerned or maybe misunderstand the above issues, and if so, please clarify and improvement will be highly appreciated.Kimbie-Lulu M Khomasdal
