Ministry of Education responds

THE Ministry of Education has taken time out to respond to a number of the complaints about the Education Sector, which have been SMSed to The Namibian: * Please Minister of Education answer my SMS about why teachers with BETD have to go for another four years for a Bachelor of Education degree at Unam.

I need the explanation and whether the Ministry is doing anything about this absurd requirement. In countries such as Zambia teacher graduates from colleges are not required to start afresh for a degree course in education. In order to obtain an appropriate response to your concern, enquire with the Faculty of Education at the University of Namibia.* Daily lesson preparation is useless and a waste of time. Why can’t we just use old lesson plans since we taught the subjects already? It is a requirement for every teacher to prepare a daily lesson presentation.Using an old lesson presentation will not cater for the new changes that can occur in a syllabus and subject curriculum.Daily lesson preparation does not only involve writing but is also a tool for updating yourself as a teacher and staying focused during a lesson.Teachers are hereby urged to get in touch with their principals if they need advice on preparing a lesson presentation.Yours in Education Public Relations OfficeIn countries such as Zambia teacher graduates from colleges are not required to start afresh for a degree course in education. In order to obtain an appropriate response to your concern, enquire with the Faculty of Education at the University of Namibia.* Daily lesson preparation is useless and a waste of time. Why can’t we just use old lesson plans since we taught the subjects already?
