WINDHOEK – Vikapita Meroro got back to winning ways in dramatic fashion when he beat Edward Nhundu of Zimbabwe on a first round technical knockout at the Windhoek Country Club on October 13.
Meroro had suffered his first defeat as a professional boxer in his previous fight against Stan Kanislov of the Ukraine, but he was in awesome form to overpower Nhundu and notch up his ninth victory in 10 professional fights. Nhundu attacked at the start of the round and caught Meroro with a sharp jab, but that was the end of his onslaught.Meroro immediately went on the offensive and started pummelling away at Nhundu’s head and body.The Zimbabwean had no answer to Meroro’s power and referee Herman Garus-Oab stepped in to stop the fight after only 56 seconds.Meroro’s fans amongst the 400-odd crowd went wild with delight, dancing and cheering, while a dazed Nhundu looked on disconsolately.Hango beats Kashela In the main supporting bout, Tommy Hango maintained his unbeaten record when he beat Daniel “Open Fire” Kashela on points over four rounds.Hango won the fight unanimously on points with the judges scoring 59-56, 59-56 and 58-56 in his favour.It was Hango’s sixth consecutive victory as a professional, while Kashela now has a record of nine wins, four losses and one draw from 14 pro fights.Negodhi, Shindjuu in majority draw In an exciting flyweight bout, Simon Negodhi and Abmerk Shindjuu fought to a majority draw.The boxers had the crowd up on its feet, shouting for more as they slugged it out toe to toe.Neghodi tried to force the pace and was the aggressor, catching Shindjuu with some sharp uppercuts, but Shindjuu refused to give up and gave as good as he got.Negodhi now has a record of seven wins and a defeat from eight pro fights, while Shindjuu’s record stands at two wins, a draw and a loss in four pro fights.The results of the other professional fights on the undercard were as follows: Peteneni Elago beat Johannes Gabriel on points over four rounds in a bantamweight bout.Elago’s record now stands at three wins and three losses from six fights, while it was Gabriel’s third defeat from three fights.In a lightweight fight, Jatoorora Tjingavete beat Albino Felesianu on a unanimous points decision over four rounds, after all three judges scored the fight 40-36 in Tjingavete’s favour.Tjingavete now has a record of five wins and one defeat from six pro fights, while it was Felesianu’s first defeat in four pro fights.In a lightweight bout, Peter Malaika beat Matthew Niitembu on a fourth round technical knockout.Malaika’s record now stands at two wins and two defeats from four fights, while it was Niitembu’s fifth defeat in as many fights as a pro boxer.In a Super Featherweight bout, Abraham Ndaendapo made a successful debut as a professional boxer after beating Joseph Katenda on points over four rounds.Two judges scored the bout 40-36 and one 40-38 in Ndaendapo’s favour.It was Katenda’s sixth straight defeat as a pro boxer.In a junior welterweight fight, Gottlieb Ndokosho beat Teofelus Jatileni on a unanimous points decision over four rounds.It was Ndokosho’s third successive victory as a pro boxer, while Jatileni suffered his second successive
