Medical aid cover for the poor

ANOTHER medical aid for lower income earners, with an inclusive special package for HIV-AIDS sufferers has been launched in Namibia.

The Health-is-Vital Risk Equalisation Fund was launched in Windhoek yesterday, and is especially designed for lower income earners. As HIV-AIDS has become a major threat to the existing workforce, Health-is-Vital has called on employers and workers to make a business decision to fight the disease. The fund offers day-to-day medical aid benefits for the employed yet uninsured workforce. The fund also serves as a platform from which all insured employer groups – through their insured employer groups or uninsured employer groups – could participate in sharing the risk of HIV-AIDS.The members would then contribute a monthly premium, per beneficiary, to a risk pool which has a set of HIV-AIDS treatment benefits – called Vitality – attached to it.The Vitality package provides an annual benefit of N$100 000 per insured member for both out-patient care and hospitalisation for HIV-AIDS.As HIV-AIDS has become a major threat to the existing workforce, Health-is-Vital has called on employers and workers to make a business decision to fight the disease. The fund offers day-to-day medical aid benefits for the employed yet uninsured workforce. The fund also serves as a platform from which all insured employer groups – through their insured employer groups or uninsured employer groups – could participate in sharing the risk of HIV-AIDS.The members would then contribute a monthly premium, per beneficiary, to a risk pool which has a set of HIV-AIDS treatment benefits – called Vitality – attached to it.The Vitality package provides an annual benefit of N$100 000 per insured member for both out-patient care and hospitalisation for HIV-AIDS.
