* PARK BOOST: AN article on page 7 of yesterday’s The Namibian, ‘Namibia’s National Parks Get A World Bank Boost’, stated that an agreement in which Namibia secured a Global Environment Facility grant of US$8,2 million was signed in Windhoek last week.
The agreement was to be signed on March 2, but was postponed to an unspecified date. The co-ordinator of the Ministry of Environment’s Strengthening of Protected Areas Network project, Midori Paxton, says the signing was postponed because an official whose signature was needed was not available. She also pointed out that the World Bank is merely one of the implementing agencies of the Global Environment Facility. The other agencies are the United Nations Environment Programme and United Nations Development Programme.Namibia obtained the GEF funding through the UNDP.* THE WEEKENDER: Unfortunately the wrong bolded introduction was placed with this week’s feature article on Teenage Fathers. The introduction used was from last week’s feature on the threat of cocaine in Namibia and bears no relation to the rest of this week’s lead story. The error is regretted. The other agencies are the United Nations Environment Programme and United Nations Development Programme.Namibia obtained the GEF funding through the UNDP. * THE WEEKENDER: Unfortunately the wrong bolded introduction was placed with this week’s feature article on Teenage Fathers. The introduction used was from last week’s feature on the threat of cocaine in Namibia and bears no relation to the rest of this week’s lead story. The error is regretted.
