TIME TO SING … Big Ben will be a guest performer at Blended Voices, the Namibian choir competition at the National Theatre of Namibia from 17h00 on Saturday.

From soul-stirring poetry to live rumba, and from gourmet crayfish to groovy choirs, this weekend is bursting with things to do, hear, taste and feel in and around Namibia. Let’s get into it.

This Weekend

This Friday the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre presents ‘Rumba Night’, featuring the live bands Rumba Roots and Kiltir. Tickets are N$80 in advance and the show runs from 19h00.

Friday will also feature Franklin Shitaleni’s poetry and spoken word event ‘Frankly Speaking’ at Musos Cafe from 18h30. The line-up includes Shitaleni (as North Side Rabbi), Damn Etu and Mr Poet. Tickets are N$100.

There’s a lot to choose from on 25 April, as you could even pop into the Youth Orchestra of Namibia’s ‘Woodwinds and Senior Strings Concert’ at NG Moedergemeente Church in Daniel Munamava Road. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

This weekend is the 2025 ‘Living Earth Expo’ at Dagbreek School in Windhoek. Join Wellness Warriors for an invigorating pilates class that will leave you feeling refreshed and re-energised. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, this session is the perfect way to connect with your body and mind in a serene, eco-conscious setting. Friday will have a 16h30 and 17h30 session, while Saturday’s will begin at 08h15.

Adulting 102 is hosting the Erongo Volley Games this Saturday at the Vineta Central Sports Field at Swakopmund. Participants and spectators can join in the action as there will be food, drinks and entertainment for the whole family. Entry is N$10 for children, N$20 for adults and N$30 for cars. Prizes up to N$10 000 per team are up for grabs. Games start from 08h00.

‘Blended Voices’ takes place on Saturday evening. The Namibian choral celebration will feature seven choirs competing for a N$50 000 prize at the National Theatre of Namibia. The event will be hosted by Che Ulenga and Mappz, with special performances by Collective Singers and Big Ben. Doors open at 16h00 for the 17h00 show.

On Sunday, there will be an ‘All About Astrology’ class for those who want to learn how to use astrology for spiritual growth at Niizala Guest House at Pionierspark. The fee is N$200, and more details will be provided once a booking is made on 081 648 2301.

Next Week

From 29 April to 5 May, the annual Lüderitz Crayfish Festival takes place at Harbour Square, bringing together a celebration of culture, cuisine and community. There will be an array of seafood and live entertainment all day.

Next Saturday, 3 May, is ‘Dinner with Strangers: The Singles Table’, an exclusive experience for singles ready to meet their match. The event starts at 17h00 and venue details are still to be announced.

‘Strictly Soul’ returns to town on 3 May, hosted by Ian Lovly. Expect an unforgettable night of sensual rhythms, with sounds curated by host Akio Kawahito, featuring Fort Noks (SA), Paul Da Prince and Musketeer. Pre-sold tickets start at N$100, and the show kicks off at 19h00 at the Village Garden.

The Speakeasy in Liliencron Street is hosting ‘Ladies’ Night’ every Wednesday with 50% off of all cocktails and meal options available.

Vinyls Music and Art Cafe is hosting ‘Wine Wednesdays’ every week where you can pop in for three glasses of their finest for N$150. The special runs all day long.

Every Friday is ‘Whiskey & Wines’ at Windhoek Sky Restaurant on the fourth floor of the Independence Memorial Museum from 17h30 to 19h30. Come through for a 20% discount on any whiskey and wine.

The Stick & Whistle in Olympia has ‘Whistle Sundays’ every week, featuring live music, drinks specials, good food, hookah and aux sessions where you can plug in your own sounds. Doors open from 11h00.
