Mariental residents get a break

HOME users of electricity at Mariental are likely to pay less after the Electricity Control Board (ECB) approved the Town Council’s request to revise its electricity tariffs.

Business customers, on the other hand, will have to dig deeper into their pockets with a possible increase in their tariffs following the tariff revision by ECB. Once the revised tariffs are approved by the Town Council on Thursday, the new tariffs will come into effect immediately, town CEO Paul Nghiwilepo told The Namibian.According to Nghi-wilepo, domestic consumers will pay 10 per cent less for electricity. The new tariffs for commercial consumers have not been calculated yet.It is unlikely that the council will reject the ECB-approved revised tariffs, The Namibian was informed. Nghiwilepo said the old tariffs had to be revised because they placed an undue burden on home users while under-charging business users.
