Maria Mwengere Mess

WE want to bring to the attention of the Namibian nation of the deplorable learning environment prevailing at Maria Mwengere Secondary School in the Kavango Region.

Maria Mwengere is the only senior secondary school in Kavango where learners are using candles in the boys’ hostel due to the deplorable conditions prevailing there. The hostel is vandalised to such an extent that all lights have been removed and the entire boys’ hostel is in darkness.Maria Mwengere Secondary School is one of the poorest performing schools.In 2005 no single Grade 12 leaner qualified for studies at either the Polytechnic or Unam.The school is poorly administered.There is no supervision on the part of the principal, who also runs a cuca shop.He is the cause of the lack of discipline at the school.The Director of Education, Mr Alfons Dikuua, is fully aware of the situation at the school but seems unable to do anything about it.Why should a Namibian school deteriorate to such an extent?
