Man in court over severed head

THE man arrested by the Okongo Police on Saturday in connection with the beheading of Elias Shoombe (60) from Ongumi village in Ohangwena region appeared in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Josef Hakaonde (33) was not asked to plead and his case was postponed to September 14 for further investigation. He was not granted bail.According to the Police, Hakaonde has confessed that he killed Shoombe because he had an affair with Kaonde’s girlfriend in 2002.The two men met in the mahangu field of the headman Ongumi village on Saturday afternoon.Hakaonde allegedly chopped off Shoombe’s head with a panga, put the head on a stick and paraded it in nearby cuca shops.He was not granted bail.According to the Police, Hakaonde has confessed that he killed Shoombe because he had an affair with Kaonde’s girlfriend in 2002.The two men met in the mahangu field of the headman Ongumi village on Saturday afternoon.Hakaonde allegedly chopped off Shoombe’s head with a panga, put the head on a stick and paraded it in nearby cuca shops.
