AN employee of Elgin Brown & Hamer was electrocuted while working on a boat in Walvis Bay harbour over the weekend.
A press statement released by the company said Abraham Willemse was onboard a vessel scheduled for routine maintenance at the NamDock 1 facility on Friday.Preliminary reports indicate that while Willemse was working on the deck, a fire hose uncoupled and drenched the work area with water, including the electrical lead and plugs. The company said it appeared that Willemse had tried to move the electric cables out of the water when he was electrocuted.’Although safety personnel and first-aid assistance were on the scene, nothing could be done and Willemse was declared dead on site,’ the statement said.Willemse’s next of kin, who live in Lüderitz, were informed, and an investigation into the matter is continuing.
